How we measure

Our data and method, explained once for every station page.

Every station page uses the same data and method. Rather than repeat it on 272 pages, it's explained once here. Full licences are on sources and licences.

Distances and walking times

Distances are straight-line ("as the crow flies") from the station's centre point to the place, or to the nearest edge of a park. Walking times marked est. are our estimates: the straight-line distance plus 30% for real streets, at 80 metres a minute. Your route may be shorter or longer. Walking times between stations taken from TfL's walking maps (May 2025) are TfL's own figures and are labelled as such.

Which nearby places we list

We list museums, galleries, landmarks, notable parks and squares, markets, theatres, statues, memorials, libraries and viewpoints mapped in OpenStreetMap within about 650 m of a Zone 1 station or 900 m elsewhere. Parks need to be notable (linked to Wikidata) or reasonably large. "Free entry" means OpenStreetMap marks the place as free; check opening times before you go.

We hide a short list of OpenStreetMap entries that aren't useful to visitors (such as individual phone boxes, listed railings and private galleries), and for some big stations we add well-known landmarks up to about 1.2 km away, such as stadiums, if OpenStreetMap places them just outside the normal radius.

The station maps

Maps show the station's centre, entrance points from TfL's open data (small squares) and the places listed on the page. Entrance positions are approximate and TfL's data doesn't name the exits, so follow the signs in the station. The background is OpenStreetMap; this is not the Tube map.

Step-free information

For 36 central stations we summarise TfL's Step-free Tube guide (October 2026 edition). For every station we also show what TfL's station data (dated 20 October 2026) records for each platform: whether there's a step-free route from the street, and the boarding step and gap. "Not listed in TfL data" means the data has no record, not that there's no access. This is what the data shows, not a guarantee; lifts can be out of service, so check TfL's live station page before you travel.

TfL data and notes

Toilets, platforms and interchange distances come from TfL's detailed station data; facilities from TfL's Unified API. Both can lag behind changes at the station. Notes quoted from TfL are shown in quotation marks; we drop notes that mention old dates.

Which pages are in search results

Station pages with little unique information are still published and linked, but asked not to appear in search results until we can add more. Currently 213 station pages are indexed and 59 are not.
