Quicker to walk?
Some central stations are very close together. Once you add escalators, corridors and waiting for a train, walking a short hop can take about as long, and it costs nothing.
These times come from TfL's own walking maps (May 2025), so they are TfL's figures rather than our estimates. TfL says all the routes on them are step-free, and that one minute is about 100 steps.
Three short ones worth knowing
- Charing Cross to Embankment: 3 minutes.
- Leicester Square to Covent Garden: 4 minutes.
- Cannon Street to Monument: 4 minutes.
